Role Overview

This is a full-time remote role for an AI Engineering Lead/ Architect. This is a senior individual contributor position responsible for owning Universe’s technical direction: scaling systems, defining architecture, improving quality and cost efficiency, and shaping future product capabilities.

The role starts as a hands-on technical position, with the opportunity to grow into broader technical leadership over time.

Who are we looking for?

We're searching for an AI Engineering Lead/ Architect, a senior individual contributor to own Universe’s technical direction: scaling the system, defining architecture, improving quality and cost efficiency, and helping shape what we build next. This role starts as a hands-on technical position, with opportunity to grow into broader team leadership over time.

Responsibilities

• Scale existing RAG systems: optimize retrieval for billions of data points, millions of creators, and complex multi-tenant use cases

• Build new capabilities: agentic workflows, client-specific knowledge bases, real-time data synthesis, MCP integrations

• Set the technical bar for AI engineering: drive quality, reliability, and cost optimization

• Evaluate technical initiatives through customer value, cost, and strategic impact, not only engineering elegance

• Partner with Product and the AI squad: unblock roadblocks, elevate thinking, influence strategy through technical leadership

Requirements

• Proven experience shipping LLM-powered features in production

• 5+ years of software engineering experience

• Expertise scaling RAG systems: vector databases, retrieval optimization, handling millions of embeddings, multi-tenant knowledge management

• Experience with microservices and scaling APIs

• Strong background in agentic workflows, tool use, MCP, and multi-turn reasoning

• Proficiency in Python

• Experience with big data systems (terabytes, millions of entities)

• Experience mentoring engineers and raising the technical bar of a team
